IF YOU STRUGGLE WITH DEPRESSION AND DISCOURAGEMENT, THIS MAY HELP

If you are like me, and struggle with constant discouragement and depression, then this might help you:

I did this daily for years as a pastor, but quit when I lost my church. I started back when my Mother passed away and it has helped me tremendously.

I went to the Dollar Store and bought a note pad, and sat down at the kitchen table one morning, opened my bible up, and began writing down some of the Psalms. I wrote out Psalms 3, parts of 18, Psalms 23, Psalms 91, and Psalms 112. You can also write out your favorite Psalms or Scriptures that mean a lot to you.

Then, every single morning like clock-work, I read what I have written down OUT-LOUD as a prayer. If there are people around then I whisper it. If I'm alone then I just it out loud.

Reading God's Word out loud does wonders for me. I hear it better than when I'm just reading silently. Romans 10:17 says that Faith cometh by HEARING. nothing quite like YOU hearing YOU speaking God's Word.

Also, this is a very easy and natural way to memorize Scripture without trying to memorize it. If you wrote out a few pages of Scriptures, and did this everyday, then you would have much of it memorized in a couple of months.

People ask me all the time how I am able to quote so many passages and this is my secret! Another good way to do this is to get a new bible, and to high-light all of the Scriptures that mean something to you, and to simply read them out loud everyday.

PRAYING. Praying helps me to get a load off of mind. I also started jogging everyday. I used to HATE running with a passion, but just got tired of being fat and overweight. I now run three miles a day, seven days a week. I pray when I run. I pray about everything that I can think of.

Well, I have lost 61 pounds doing this! Plus, my life is so full of storms and trials that this routine has become my ESCAPE!

So, maybe some of these things will work for you as they have worked for me. Try it. become OCD and legalistic about it and enjoy the benefits. You reap what you sow. Its a good routine and a healthy addiction.

  2. Great post, after fifteen years I just went and bought a new women's study bible. I have also highlighted the verses that I read and go back to. Something hard for be is becoming easier. I know that if I don't know the word I have nothing to fight off the things that are trying to come against me.
I walk can't run but I walk with earphones in to listen to praise and worship, so if you see an old lady walking fast down the road with her hands in the air praising God just remember she's not crazy.
